Ressha Sentai ToQger - A Redesign

Description

Something else I have been working on to TRY and get me back into making my own rangers again. This time around, however, this is in response to the recent unveiling of the suit designs of Ressha Sentai ToQger, 2014's new Super Sentai team.

If any Sentai fans are reading this, then you'll know why I decided to do this. The unveiled suits were very lacking in their designs, being a very generic group of suits that was, for lack of a better term, disappointing (www.tokunation.com/attachment.… And while I am sure they will come to grow on us, I couldn't help but visualize what these suits could've been like if they were just that bit better.

So I decided to make these suits. Plenty of the elements from the original suits are still here, like the traintrack pattern on the chest, the white gloves and boots and the helmets.

The choices I went with really spawned from the idea of individuality, which the original suits lacked. When it comes to a motif where there isn't that big a difference between individual things within that theme, I felt that something else about each ranger had to be unique from the rest. Thus, I decided to add in an extra track on the chests to make five (better matching the fact that there are five members) and used those tracks to divide the suits into sections. From here, I decided to make each section coloured differently to give each ranger a unique feel. White I felt would be the better accent colour than black would be, so I left two white sections close together on each suit, and had one track on each ranger coloured differently to be more unique. While the over-abundance of white on ToQGreen is a bit distracting, I think it works rather well.

Moving away from the suits, I didn't change that much on the helmets, save for the visors. Many fans have said that they disliked how the visors were individual, but the typical traintrack across all of them removed that sense of individuality. Thus, I decided to extend the track design to fit the visors of each ranger better.

While I don't believe the suits I made could be a better replacement for the official suits, I do wish we might have gotten something different. However, like I said, we may warm up to them later down the line, so we'll just have to deal with it.

Hope you guys like them and here's hoping to another good year of Super Sentai in 2014

-EDIT- In addition to finding out about how the team can transfer their colours between one another, I have done the same with my re-imagined team. Consider how it is more of a transfer of their trains onto their lines, I kept the arrangement of their colours the same and just switched them out respectively. Included with the update, I have added in a darker background, to make some of the areas on the suits easier to see
